On this KPFA Recording, Charles Amirkhanian interviews Dutch experimental radio host and curator Willem de Ridder. De Ridder’s experimental practices in Europe include hosting a radio program that will play whatever cassette somebody sends in in order to spread knowledge of and cultivate a community of radio and cassette experimentalists. De Ridder extends these practices to live shows where the audience is encouraged to bring cassettes to be played in the hall then and there and hosting communal radio dramas through peoples’ car radios. Discussion also extends to methods of listening to cassette pieces communally and the state of storytelling in media culture.
